Didn't work, maybe in 2013

my focus on my own health has been fleeting. im trying to exercise some but still consuming too many calories and beer. eat too much fats and sugars for sure. not running but am getting some movement, probably could still use more.

Biggest Loser contest

Ok, so today I signed up for a biggest loser contest. Someone I work with knows someone who is putting it on and so I signed up ... $25 and the winner gets the pot minus $25 and second place gets his or her money back. The winner is based on the percentage of body weight lost. I weighed in at ... 209.3 (without shoes). I felt pretty good about this ... I mean I'm not happy to be over 200 lbs. but I thought I might be near 220. Ok so now I need to get serious about this weight loss thing. Also if you gain weight you have to donate $1 to charity for every lb -- and I believe that is for every weigh-in, not just an overall amount.

It makes me feel good

Here was today's route for my lunch walk http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4219307 a pretty nice route, I must say ... Westport is always a great place to be in Kansas City. I listened to a Savage Love podcast and ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, as well as an apple. I still have my Clementine in my pocket, maybe I'll eat it for a snack later. I didn't pick up anything but I did stop by a T-shirt shop in Westport that used to be Midtown Hatters, the hat shop (isn't haberdashery the fancy word for hat shop), where I bought my fedora more than a dozen years ago. The hat I've rarely worn for a number of years but recently yanked from the closet and have worn on occasion in the past few months.

More Steps

Dana revised the rules ... don't just walk to the fifth floor and use the restroom, but go all the way to the 7th floor and then come down to the -- more steps. So it's six flights each way. It's a great idea. I always could use more steps!

More Walking

Walked for approximately 40 minutes during lunch today. A nice brisk pace. I am using a Gmaps Pedometer web site to map my walks -- here is a link today's walk - http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4216190 - a good stroll, walked near Crestwood shops and UMKC--orientation going on there today. Didn't find anything good -- a losing lottery ticket and a receipt. Listened to a few NPR Sunday Puzzle podcasts, a Judge John Hodgman podcast(which was quite funny about the use of parentheses in fiction) and two Beatles songs. Glad I remembered my earbuds today.

Good Advice -- thanks Dana

Dana saw me in the hallway going to the restroom, when she stopped and told me to drink lots of water and to use the 5th floor bathroom -- our office is on the first floor, so walking up and down five flights of steps each time I need to relieve myself, especially if I'm drinking more water and need to pee more is a great idea. I mean I could have thought out that one on my own, but it's good to have people give you this advice. Thanks Dana!

Walking start

I walked for 35 minutes over lunch ... a start of some sort. Gotta move. Found a piece of holly and a sheet with pictures of Andre's chocolates. Also found a Rubbermaid handle to something that was broken. Finding trash can be one of the things I do on these walks. Forgot headphones so no music or podcasts today. Just walked. Ate a cold pork chop and banana for lunch. Must still eat.
